Bet Busters on CentSports.com: Week 7
Thursday, October 15, 2009 4:36 PM

Time for the Week 7 edition of Bet Busters! Week 7 couldn't come any sooner because last week was definitely a forgettable one. Overall the calculator performed very well. It correctly chose the winner in 74.47% of all games and beat Vegas a very impressive 60.87% of the time. Both of those figures are all-time highs for the calculator. However when it comes to the Bet Busters, the calculator was a dismal 40% in Week 6. Check out the Week 6 Review to see exactly how the picks fared. You'll also see at the bottom of the Week 6 Review that Chris Mesa made some tweaks to the calculator which should hopefully allow it to accurately predict more blowouts.

Here are the results from Week 6:

Idaho vs. San Jose State = Win
Baylor vs. Oklahoma = Win
TCU vs. Air Force= Win
Colorado vs. Texas = Win

Louisiana Tech vs. Nevada = Loss
Boston College vs. Virginia Tech = Loss
Kansas State vs. Texas Tech = Loss
Indiana vs. Virginia = Loss
Wisconsin vs. Ohio St. = Loss
BYU vs. UNLV = Loss

We bet a total of $0.13 and ended up with a balance of $0.1755. So even though we only got 4 out of 10 picks correct, we increased our previous balance of $0.1567 by 12%. This is because we doubled up on our top 3 Bet Busters of the week and picked 2 of those correctly. So even in a down week we still came out on top. Hard to complain with that right?

Once again this week we altered the amount we wagered on each game. As you can see we decided to bet $.03 on our top 2 most confident picks, $.02 on the next 3 most confident, and $.01 on the bottom 5. In trying to gauge the power of the calculator we feel it only makes sense to weigh the top Bet Busters the most. We'll see how this strategy plays out over the course of the weekend. Follow along to see how we do!

EDIT:
Well, figures something like this would happen. This morning (10/16) the Northern Illinois @ Toledo line was finally posted by Vegas making it #4 on this weeks Bet Busters. The only problem with all of this is we already bet our bankroll on the 10 games listed above so we won't be able to put any action on this game. Vegas says Northern Illinois by 7 and the calculator has them covering the spread and winning by 16. Be sure to keep an eye on this matchup in addition to the other Bet Busters for Week 7.
